
The internet is a massive marketplace. From Facebook to Twitter to Tiktok to even Whatsapp or Telegram, there are millions and millions of people connecting, buying and selling. With the right strategy and message you can get to connect to these people and sell your products and services. And locally too. Its called Localized digital marketing or local digital marketing.
Many people buy from Jumia, Konga and even Jiji without seeing the seller face to face. These products and services are downloaded, moved, fulfilled or serviced without the buyer or seller being in the same place or even any lifting a finger. This is an advantage the internet offers compared to other mediums. And many millionaires have thus been produced like this but there are certain businesses, which deliver products or services that can’t be fulfilled online. These are products or services that need face to face buying or servicing. Services, like
- Bathroom cleaning/janitorial services,
- Barbing and hair treatments,
- DJ services,
- Laundry or dry cleaning,
- House painting,
- Swimming pool engineering/ cleaning,
- Entertainment events or places like concerts or dance clubs,
- Home renovation or relocation,
- Massage and spa treatments,
- Medical treatments/therapy,
- Food centres and eateries,
- Car repair services,
- etc
If you run any of this business or know someone that does. Your question will be How can one effectively market any of these businesses online? And make money. … You can do this easily using two ways and neither needs you an expensive website or lots of money (coming from someone that designs websites for a living I tell you this as a fact).
The strategy here is to use: The search engines and focus on localized searches or how you can rank high for local search terms. Search engines are now the number one source of traffic for many consumers. So what you do is position your business on it, so that it ranks high on the search results for your locality. using
1. Google Maps
2. Lead valves (Via classified ads, sponsored posts, etc )

Here’s a practical example
If you run a barbers shop for instance (or any of the business I stated above), you can list your services, business opening hours, snap pictures of customers having their haircut and put your location, eg. Surulere and list everything on Google map.
If someone searches for Barbers shop in Surulere. Your business will pop up and you can get that customer.
You can try this out with any business that is localized and needs face to face buying and selling.
Let’s try barbers shop in Ilorin. And you will get a different result too with phone numbers to call. See Diagram attached. This is how to geographically target customers on the internet.
Let’s use another example. I will be searching for generator repairer in Abuja and then in Aba. See the results in the diagram.
Each locality has its own specific search results. This is only one strategy out of the two I started above. But if you learn it you can have lots of people calling and visiting your shop offline to do business with you. And never mind. Even if there are others already listed on Google like the above in your category, You can still rank high and even be number one if you start today. It just needs you to take action.
So what are you going to do with this new knowledge? Sit on it and complain about Buhari and the economy or you’ll implement it and make meanings out of your life. See despite the poor state of the economy. I know people building houses and buying cars. You too can do the same. You just need to apply what you have just learnt into action.
