My Book launch Event

December 19, 2019

With the aftermath of my book launch I think the hashtag #DigitalmarketingBook and #DigitalMarketingEvent will take a break for a while. Sat. Dec. 14, 2019 was quite a memorable day for me.

Organizing any event at all, even a small birthday party is a tasking task, let alone a business event like a book launch and award ceremony. Well! My book launch has come and gone. The event was a resounding success. Let me start by thanking all that most especially created time out of their busy schedule to show up. I also want to thank all those that didn’t show but sent in their donations. For privacy purposes I wont mention names. My thanks also goes to those that prayed, called or even sent texts to show they had me in mind. It is so good to have people like you in my life.

Let me give a brief report of how it all went down. Well! first it started late. Yep. We were scheduled to start by 10 AM but my event started an hour and thirty minutes late. I don’t know why at this age and time. We still use African time for events. It annoys me. I always personally believe in keeping to time. TIME IS MONEY, is an oft repeated cliche that still holds true….

Mind you this is not my first rodeo. I had once organized a book launch 13 or 14 years ago when I first launched my 1st book – a fiction. So I know all the intricacies and all-whats that a book launch/presentation entails and was prepared. So when my first chief launcher and the back up chief-launcher didn’t show, I panicked a little before summoning courage to call up another guest and a friend, Mr Tunde Sobowale to stand in.

The Agenda started with opening prayer by the way. I asked my MCs – Anthony Chukwu and Felix Ekweanua, to skip the National Anthem. Don’t ask me why. Then a brief intro and keynote address by Charles Okaformbah. And we went into the panelist discussion which was explosive.

Panelist discussion

My 3 panelists, Dr. Mary-Joan Nwaogu; a Publisher, an Educationist and Author of several books including writing builder 1 – 3 for nursery kids, Mr Elijah Sofela; A Google certified Analytics expert and digital marketing expert of over 7 years experience and Mr. David Kinho; music superstar, actor and current voice of WesternBet advert on radio really did justice to the questions thrown at them by Anthony Chukwu, the Anchor of the segment. Maybe because Tony was coming from the angle of an author himself too, so the questions were tough but the panelists were brilliant answering the questions, ranging from their review and personal opinions of the book down to reading culture in Nigeria and how to improve it.

Did you know that its actually cheaper to print books and ship them to Nigeria than buying printing materials like paper and paint and shipping them in? Yes! In Nigeria you will be charged taxes for shipping in, paper for printing and all other printing resources but won’t be taxed when you print outside and bring into the country, as revealed by a member of the panelist, Dr Mary-Joan. Coincidentally I printed How To Sell On The Internet outside the country without knowing this.

In between all these programmes, the other MC, Felix Ekweanua, also an Author in his own rights added a spice of comedy to the event. There was an Author Interview were I revealed snippets of contents of my book, the challenges I had writing and publishing my book and where I mentioned my money back guarantee for buyers of the book if they are unsatisfied with its contents.

The unveiling

Finally came the official unveiling and launch of the book and refreshment. The response by guests was great with several of them doing instant transfers to our Siscomedia Ltd account for copies of the book.

Awards were presented to deserving longstanding clients, like Priority Communications Ltd and Mr Ambrose Igboke of Kigam Business ventures. A closing remark from the Author, prayers and photo sessions were lots and lots of people snapped with copies of the book and me.

There was enough networking before and after this and also the event was graciously covered by Vanguard newspapers and Gistcorner.com media crew.

My digital marketing book launch was great. It was a wonderful event, I learnt, I had fun and will gladly do it again. See below for a brief video of the programme.
